Before the hops craze spread in the brewing industry, did you know Yarrow was used as a flavoring agent? It sure was. Much before that, the Greek God Achilles, for whom the Yarrow plant Achillea millefolium is named, used Yarrow to heal soldiers on the battlefield. Not surprisingly we find that Yarrow has a long history of being used to stop the flow of blood from wounds.
Yarrow essential oil boasts many more additional benefits. It is a powerful cicatrisant. Simply diluting in moisturizing carrier oil like coconut oil and applying to the skin can relieve you of scars and skin blemishes without the need for those “pharmaceutical strength” petroleum based products. Yarrow essential oil can also bring relief to irregular menstruation, cramps, bloating and gas through its carminative properties. As an anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic, Yarrow makes a great ointment for treating those sore muscles and achy joints. Add to that the fact that Yarrow oil can relieve stress and tension, and you’ve got a formula for the full body tonic that Yarrow oil is.
Yarrow grows about 1-3 feet in height and produces beautiful flowers in a full range of colors. The herb itself is put through a steam distillation process to extract the essential oil which is thin and has a blue color to it. It is a must have in any skin care product and mixes well with many high noted scents
