Our lives today can be stressful and overwhelming, but when it starts to affect the body, Wintergreen essential oil can provide a soothing relief for aching muscles and joints.
Wintergreen has a minty and slightly earthy scent and can help to release tight muscles. The slight creamy notes in the aroma provide a relaxing end to a long day and provide a more soothing alternative to other, peppier mint oils. It also improves circulation, which can help ease sore joints and nerve pain in the legs. Because of its high levels of methyl salicylate, wintergreen essential oil works as a powerful natural painkiller.
Wintergreen is famous for its use in toothpaste and chewing gum. The essential oil of this native North American plant is extracted by steam distillation of its leaves. Because of its strength, use with caution and in small amounts. Just a few drops of wintergreen essential oil added to massage oil can bring warmth and relief to sore muscles. It is also frequently used to treat insect bites, including poisonous insects such as wasps and scorpions.
